It is the collection of two essays that were originally published on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.contributoria.com\/issue\/2014-05\/5319c4add63a707e780000cd\">Contributoria<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/throwing-science-at-anti-vaxxers-just-makes-them-more-hardline-37721\">The Conversation<\/a>. I have revised and expanded these, and added a guide to further reading on the topic. There are bespoke illustrations inspired by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Sleep_of_Reason_Produces_Monsters\">Goya<\/a> (of owls), and I&#8217;ve added an introduction about why I think psychologists and journalists both love stories that we&#8217;re irrational creatures incapable of responding to reasoned argument.
