We had to have our cat killed a few days ago (generalized cancer, if you’re interested). As you can imagine I didn’t feel too good about it and as I was leaving the vet’s office, we were talking about “The Meaning of Things” (it’s actually quite embarrassing to have this kind of conversation because an animal died…)
Anyway, I thought of you when the guy said, “well, why did evolution result in us ?” Being the sophisticated person you know (although a deist who wished he was more traditionnally religious) I said “well, evolution also results in gnats and elephants, doesn’t it ?” And then he said something that I think you might find interesting : “Of course, but isn’t it strange that living creatures always evolve to more complexity ?”
Indeed it is.
