There’s a difference between scientific explanations and explanations involving science.

Something for the fMRI crowd to look out for, me thinks. I’d like to know a little more than function X activates region Y of the brain please.

Particularly this one:

13Why are we plagued by odd socks?

Analysis by Robert Matthews, at Aston University, Birmingham, showed that if you lose six socks from a total of 10 pairs, you are most likely to be left with only two complete pairs among the 14 socks still in your drawer. You are 100 times less likely to have the best possible outcome of seven complete pairs.

Surely this is nonsense! Even if all the lost socks are from different pairs, you will still have 4 intact pairs left. It’s impossible to be left with only 2!
